A Christmas Party

We really enjoyed ourselves. We played games and opened gifts, then had a cookie exchange. I think everyone thought the best part was the announcement that school was delayed 2 hours and that there was no seminary!

Cookie exchange recipes:
Pretzel treats
  • pretzels
  • Rolos
  • nuts
place pretzels on a baking sheet. then unwrap enough Rolos and place them each on top of a pretzel. bake in the oven for 4 minutes at 350 degrees. remove from the oven the squish a nut on top and let cool.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip

  • 1c. oats
  • 2 1/4c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1c. butter
  • 3/4c. brown sugar
  • 3/4c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 bag of chocolate chips
heat oven to 350 degrees
mix butter, both sugars, vanilla, lemon juice & eggs together
mix separately oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon then add to wet ingredients.
add chocolate chips.
bake for 8-10 minutes

Gingerbread cookies

1 stick of butter
1/2c. brown sugar
1/2c. molasses
1 egg
2 1/2c. flour
1tsp baking soda
1/2 allspice
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1TBL ginger
1/2 tsp salt
cream butter and sugar together, then beat in egg and molasses. Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Add dry ingredients to the wet and beat together. cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
preheat oven to 350 degrees. on a lightly floured surface, roll the dough about a 1/4 of inch thick. cut out to desired shapes and the place on a cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Bake about 7 minutes. let cool then decorate.
*note: leave out baking soda for making gingerbread houses.

Cream cheese Frosting
  • 8oz cream cheese
  • 4 TBL butter
  • 2c powdered sugar
  • 1tsp.vanilla
cream together til smooth.

Cream cheese glaze

  • 8oz cream cheese
  • 4c powdered sugar
  • 1c milk
  • 1tsp vanilla
blend together till smooth. Glaze will harden on cookie and is beautiful on gingerbread.

REMINDER

Caramel Chex Mix





2 large boxes of rice Chex
pour into very large bowl
in a pan combine
1 lb unsalted butter
1 c. Karo syrup
3 c. packed brown sugar
cook over medium-high heat until boiling, stirring constantly.
remove from heat and add
1tsp. vanilla
1tsp. baking soda
pour over cereal and mix. store in air tight container.

Pumkins In A Row

We had been given pumpkins to decorate for friends and families in the ward and we did do a couple but we had enough pumpkins for all the girls to have one of their own to keep or to give away. Lots of good ideas and skills at our decorating table!

Hay Ride and Bonfire

Every Year the Young Women and Young men get together for a Hay Ride and a Bonfire with Hot chocolate and doughnuts waiting at the end. Lots of fun and not too cold. Especially when we finally got the fire lit!

We have decided to have a cooking club of sorts. once a month we will learn how to make something new. share the recipes and collect them all in our own special recipe boxes.
That way, when we're on our own, everyone will already have a start to their own kitchen masterpieces.

Baby Shower!

Yay! The Mom To Be is here! We're making a fleece blanket for the baby. Time for baby shower games, Match the baby names to the animals, guess what baby food this is, finish the nursery rhymes, and find the safety pins in the rice. Time for gifts and cake. (that's suppose to be a pacifier)
